At Aware Group, we have a team of awesome people who deliver AI services and solutions to some of the largest businesses across New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region.

A bit about our team:

Our team are highly intelligent and extremely passionate about delivering projects that hold high value to our customers. We’re an oddly mixed bunch of conservative and out-there personalities that gel really well, while supporting each other to deliver well-thought-out solutions. We have cool partners that bring us awesome projects, meaning that every day is different.

In case you’re not excited yet; here are a few more benefits and perks:

  • We’re serious about work-life balance. We actively practice flexible working arrangements and don’t really like people working overtime, but if you do, we track time-in-lieu to ensure you’re paid for every hour you work.
  • We have company lunches based on team cravings and an office snack cupboard regularly stocked with whatever you would like (fresh fruit or potato chips?).
  • You’ll get to work in a brand new office in Featherston House that comes with ergonomic standing desks, fake plants, and a shiny new espresso machine.
  • We get to play with awesome tech – including Boston Dynamics Spot!
  • You’ll get plenty of new challenges. We’re in demand and growing quickly, so we actively encourage personal growth and want people to make their roles their own.
  • We’re also open to team members of the canine type, so if you’ve got an office friendly dog we’d love to chat!
  • We are a team of great people who want to be the best. We are a tight-knit team who genuinely care for each other’s personal and professional success.

A bit about the role:

We’re growing so much at the office that we’re opening a new office in Wellington! You’d be joining our newly established Wellington team, and you’d start your journey at Aware with a 2-week long induction in Hamilton to get to meet our team and learn about how we work.

We’re expecting to have this team start on the 4th of October, in time to be inducted and start in our brand-spanking-new office when it opens on Monday 18 October 2021.

Although physically separate, this role will work as a part of our Project Services team alongside other Project Managers predominantly based in Hamilton. We’re also looking to have 4 Engineers and a member of our Commercial (sales) team based from the Wellington Office to start with.

This opportunity is specifically for an experienced Project Manager to join the team who has strong experience managing software projects (especially in emerging technology). This person will take on a leadership role of the Wellington office, ensuring our Engineers are well integrated with the wider Development Services team and working closely with the Director of Project Services to proactively identify and overcome any people or project challenges that arise through this exciting growth.

Your project team will vary from project to project and may include any member of the Development Services team (regardless of whether they’re located in Hamilton or Wellington). As such, in this role you’ll need to be comfortable working remotely with team members to set expectations and ensure that project deliverables and deadlines are met.

At Aware Group, being a Senior Project Manager means being comfortable thinking on your feet, leading technical team members to success while working directly with clients and internal team members to ensure expectations are aligned. You’ll have enough experience to overcome complex project challenges in a proactive and solution focused manner as well as effectively prioritising workload across the wider development team.

We have a focus on providing quality to our clients, so the ability to proactively identify and manage project risks, as well as to escalate to the Director of Project Services the flow on implications of project risks is imperative.

Aware has a close partnership with Microsoft in delivering demonstrations both for existing and upcoming technologies; in this role you will learn new frameworks and communicate on a technical level with Microsoft product teams.

As this role will involve consulting directly with customers and partners, some international and domestic travel may be requested from time to time (once it’s safe to again).

We encourage you to apply if you have:

  • 7+ years experience as a Project Manager.
  • 5+ years experience as a Project Manager in a tech consulting environment.
  • Experience scoping and quoting software projects.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and leadership skills with confidence supporting team members with personal growth opportunities.
  • Developed administrative skills with the ability to effectively manage project data entry, budgets and general administration.
  • Ability to learn new project management software quickly (we use Projectworks which it’s highly likely you haven’t used before).
  • A highly organised approach to your work with the ability to prioritise effectively and work across several projects at once.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to set clear expectations, support, coach, and motivate project team members.
  • Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to effectively manage project budgets.
  • Demonstrated strong emotional intelligence with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver robust and scalable solutions.
  • An interest in further developing your skillset to be T-shaped (develop skills outside of your area of expertise that compliment your strengths).
  • Ability to understand technical solutions and identify where something doesn’t smell right with the technical aspects of a solution.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and share those learnings.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to think outside the box to ensure projects meet customer expectations.

It would be ideal if you also have:

  • Have experience using Azure services.
  • Have prior understanding/exposure to various applications of AI, Machine Learning and IoT.

Note that the successful applicant will be required to undergo background checks (reference & criminal record) prior to commencement of employment.
